59 lakh fake voters in Andhra Pradesh: YSR Congress

$

Amravati: With an Election Commission (EC) team visiting Andhra Pradesh to audit the state voter list, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Thursday instensified its attack on the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), claiming over 59 lakh fake voters had been added to the list at its behest.

Out of the total 3.69 crore names on state voter rolls, over 59 lakh (16 per cent) are invalid or duplicate, the YSRCP said at a press conference on Thursday and alleged that the TDP government was doing everything in its power to subvert democracy and steal the elections.

The party also released a detailed survey pointing out 59,18,631 voters under 12 different categories such as duplicate, illegal, invalid, bogus and demographically similar entries. It said the number of such voters was 52.7 lakh in September 2018.

The party further said that over 20 lakh people have votes in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had on February 4 met the Chief Election Commissioner to bring to his notice discrepancies in the state voter list and requested him to intervene in the matter to ensure free and fair elections.

YSRCP Legal Cell President P. Sudhakar Reddy then filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court seeking directions to the EC to rectify the discrepancies.

The High Court has sought a clarification from the Election Commission in the matter after an audit of the list.

Following the directive, a 10-member EC team, led by former Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi, arrived in the state on Wednesday to conduct an audit of electoral rolls.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Andhra Pradesh defeat Nagaland by 179 runs, record biggest T20 win ever

Andhra Pradesh led by Hanuma Vihari scripted history on Friday by recording the biggest win ever registered in T20 cricket, following their 179-run win against Nagaland on day two of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Mulapadu.

Andhra Pradesh opted to bat first after winning the toss with Hanuma Vihari and Ashwin Hebbar sent in as openers. The outfit were able to post a massive total of 244/4 despite the early dismissal of Hebbar, on the back of an excellent 38-ball century by Ricky Bhui.

Bhui further enjoyed quality support from Girinath Reddy who smashed 62 runs in 31 deliveries, in an innings comprising of three boundaries and five sixes.

Nagaland in turn, failed to make their presence felt after being handed an imposing total of 245 runs to chase down. KV Sasikanth, SK Ismail and Karn Sharma combined to dismiss the opposition with three wickets apiece for a paltry score of 65, within a period of just 13.1 overs.

This massive win by a margin of 179 runs shattered the 172-run win recorded by Sri Lanka against Kenya during the inaugral ICC World T20 in 2007, as per as the 171-run registered by the Balkh Legends against the Nangahar Leopards.

YSR Congress Party on Monday launched the last leg of its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll with their campaign song, Ravali Jagan, Kavali Jagan (Jagan should come, we want Jagan). The party said that it is also the official slogan of the campaign.

The song was launched in presence of senior party leaders at the party central office near Lotus Pond in Hyderabad. YSRCP is planning to take the song to each and every person in the state in the coming weeks. The full song and the ringtone is available for download at https://jaganannaforcm.com/song/

Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) has created the song after taking inputs from thousands of people across Andhra Pradesh. The YSRCP said that song captures the mood of the people of Andhra Pradesh who are fed up of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his false promises. Senior YSRCP leaders claim that the people of the state have made up their mind to replace Naidu with YSRCP Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The song recognizes Jagan Reddy as the only person who can work for the welfare of people of Andhra Pradesh. The song channelises the outcry of various sections of the society. The song also describes how people from Backward Castes are facing trouble in leading a normal life due to the burden loans and how people are being cheated in the name of DWCRA loan waiver for women. The song also highlights how youth were cheated with false promise of jobs.

The party is planning to take this song to the grassroots through a free download link and musical marches on bikes. The YSRCP, I-PAC, and volunteers will ensure that everyone in the state hears this song.

The song was launched in the presence of top YSRCP party leaders, including Mr. Vijay Sai Reddy, Mr. Botsa Satyanarayana, Mr. Aanam Ramanarayan Reddy, Mr. Sagidurga Prasad Raju, etc.

Talking to media after launching the song, YSRCP leaders Vijay Sai Reddy and Botsa Satyanarayana said “This song has been released as a part of the campaign, it talks about how people are fed up with Chandrababu Naidu and his government and why people want Jagan. We will be taking this song and the slogan – Ravali Jagan Kavali Jagan – to the grassroots and ensure that everyone hears it”.

Rail Minister Piyush Goyal announces new railway zone for Andhra Pradesh - South Coast Railway

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday announced a new railway zone for Andhra Pradesh, days after a delegation of BJP lawmakers from the state met the minister demanding the same. The new railway zone - Southern Coast Railway - will be headquartered in Visakhapatnam, Goyal said, adding that it will be the 18th zone in the country.

"As per item 8 of Schedule 13 (Infrastructure) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014, the Indian Railways was required to examine establishing a new railway zone in the successor state of Andhra Pradesh," the Minister said.

"The matter has been examined in detail in consultation with the stakeholders and it has been decided to go ahead with the creation of a new zone with its headquarter in Visakhapatnam," he told reporters.

In a memorandum submitted to Goyal, the BJP delegation had said that the north Andhra region, comprising Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts, is "very backward and needs an impetus for development".

The new zone will comprise the existing Guntakal, Guntur and Vijayawada divisions that currently fall under the South Central Railway.

The South Central Railway will then consist of the Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Nanded divisions, Goyal said.

Waltair division, one of the three divisions of the East Coast Railway Zone, covering the northern districts of Andhra Pradesh, parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, having its headquarter in Visakhapatnam, will be split into two, he said.

While one part will be incorporated in the new zone and merged with the neighbouring VijVijayawadavision, the remaining portion will be converted into a new division headquartered at Rayagada under the East Coast Railway (ECoR).

The decision of a new zone comes despite internal reports of the Railways that questioned the need for a separate zone and remarked that it was not "feasible".

Indian Railways' operations are currently divided into 17 zones, which are further sub-divided into divisions, each having a divisional headquarter. There are a total of 73 divisions at present.

In 2002-2003, seven new zones and eight new divisions were created and the Salem division was added in 2007.

During 2009-2013, 92 requests for new zones and 45 new divisions were received. These were examined by a committee formed in 2012. The committee in its report had said that "none of the requests was justified".

The cost of creating infrastructure for a new zone, according to an internal assessment of the Railways, is around Rs. 205 crore. These figures exclude extra costs relating to creation or upgradation of posts, transfers, posting of staff and other costs.

YSR Congress holds series of campaigns to inform voters of 'failures' of Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu

$

In the runup to the Lok Sabha election, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has launched a string of innovative campaigns to up the ante against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam government. The campaigns have been designed along the lines of party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy's Praja Sankalpa Yatra where he walked 3,648 kms to understand the issues concerning the people of the state.

The Praja Sankalpa Yatra was followed by Ninnu Namma Babu (We Don’t Trust You Babu), Jagan Anna Pilupu (Jagan Anna is Calling You), and Samara Shankaravam (Booth-cadre Meetings).

Ninnu Nammam Babu

The Ninnu Nammam Babu campaign was aimed at providing a platform to with an aim to convince them to declare a 'no confidence' Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's government. Under the campaign, all 175 YSRCP AC-Coordinators visited 20 villages each, in fully branded vehicles, and conducted village-level meetings. They spoke to people about their issues and grievances and tell them about the shortcomings of the current government. Upon the completion of the meeting, the AC-Coordinators put up a set of hoardings near the venue of the meetings which highlighted the village’s declaration of ‘no confidence’ in Chandrababu Naidu. Throughout the duration of this campaign, over 6,000 cars with Ninnu Nammam Babu stickers on their rear windowpane were actively roaming all across the state.

Jagan Anna Pilupu

Through the Jagan Anna Pilupu, the party aims to create a network of village-level influencers, who can function as the link between Jagan Mohan Reddy and the people of Andhra Pradesh at the grass-root level. Over 70,000 neutral village-level influencers across the state received personalised letters from the YSRCP chief recognising their specific contributions to society and appreciated them for playing a part in the state's development. Through these letters, Reddy also urged upon them to share their inputs and suggestions, which could help him in creating a blueprint for Andhra Pradesh's future. Each letter gave the influencer an email id (officeofysjagan@gmail.com), a phone number (+919199691996) from his office on which they could either give their suggestions or express interest in meeting him directly. He has been interacting with these influencers at districts-level meetings over the past month.

Samara Shankaravam

Samara Shankaravam is a mammoth exercise to create an booth-level strength for the YSRCP. In order to give the TDP machinery a run for their money YSRCP formed a network of 505,120 booth-level workers, with 1 convenor and 10 workers at each booth in Andhra Pradesh. Under the banner of Samara Shankaravam (booth-cadre meetings), Reddy has been interacting with booth-level workers in each of the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. In each of these meetings, he will be meeting with over 45,000 booth-level workers. This is the first of its kind booth-cadre meeting where a party leader is interacting with party workers on such a large scale.

The campaigns for the party have been conceptualised and executed by Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) to ensure a momentum for the YSRCP. As per sources, more such campaigns are in the pipeline – starting with a bus yatra, where Reddy will be covering the assembly constituencies which he couldn't cover during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra.

YSR Congress leader YS Vivekananda Reddy found dead under suspicious circumstances, complaint filed

Kadapa: YSR Congress party leader YS Vivekananda Reddy was found dead at his residence under suspicious circumstances on Friday. He was 68 years old.

Vivekananda Reddy - a former Andhra Pradesh Minister – is believed to have suffered a massive cardiac arrest at his residence in Pulivendula town.

The former MP was alone at his house and his body was found in a pool of blood in the bathroom.

In view of suspicion over his death, a formal police complaint has been filed by his personal assistant Krishna Reddy in this regard.

A case of unnatural death under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been registered and the police have begun their investigations.

A former Lok Sabha member, Vivekananda was the younger brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of YSR Congress party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

According to his PA, the deceased YSRCP leader had injury marks on his forehead.

His body was taken for autopsy to a government hospital.

YSR Congress leaders have expressed concerns over his death and called for a probe.

They claimed he was fine till Thursday and had participated in the election campaigning.

MP Vijay Sai Reddy called for an impartial probe to find out if it was a natural death or accidental death or there was some other cause.

Vivekananda Reddy was elected from the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency on Congress ticket in 1999 and 2004. He was twice elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly (1989, 1994) from Pulivendula, a family stronghold.

He was also elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council in 2009 and served as Agriculture Minister in Kiran Kumar Reddy`s cabinet.

He remained loyal to Congress when Jaganmohan Reddy raised a banner of revolt against the party for not picking him as the successor of his father and Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy following his death in a helicopter crash in 2009.

Jagan Reddy had alleged that Congress tried to engineer split in the family by making Vivekananda Reddy a Minister. The young leader subsequently floated YSR Congress party.

Vivekananda Reddy contested 2011 by-election from Pulivendula constituency against his sister-in-law and Jagan`s mother YS Vijayamma, who contested as YSR Congress candidate and won with a huge majority.

He later quit the Congress and joined YSR Congress.

YSR Congress demands CBI probe into death of YS Vivekananda Reddy

$
0
0

Hours after former minister and YSR Congress party leader YS Vivekananda Reddy was found dead at his residence in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh under suspicious circumstances, the party on Friday demanded a high-level Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

68-year-old Vivekananda Reddy was the brother of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

The party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma claimed that the circumstances leading to the death cause concern, adding that it can't be brushed aside by a regular inquiry, like SIT. She further asserted that there has been a methodical attack on the YSR family members.

Recalling the death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, she said that he was a victim of a helicopter crash. She also claimed that recently there was an attack on the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Vizag airport and it shows the conspiracy angle to the episode. She said that only a high-level probe can bring the truth out.

Vivekananda Reddy had returned from election campaign at Jammalamdugu on Thursday night and the local MLA who had defected to ruling TDP was given the Kadapa Lok Sabha ticket for the April 11 election.

Party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma said, "The death behind the suspicious death of YS Vivekananda Reddy should be probed by a high-level investigation agency as the circumstances leading to the death causes concern. They cannot be brushed aside by a regular inquiry like SIT as there has been a methodical attack on the YSR family members. While Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy was a victim of helicopter crash, recently there was an attack on the Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Vizag airport which shows the conspiracy angle to the episode. YS Vivekananda Reddy had returned from election campaign at Jammalamdugu last night and the local MLA who had defected to ruling TDP was given the Kadapa Lok Sabha ticket in the April 11 elections."

She said that only a high-level probe can bring the truth out.

This was the third unnatural death in the YS family that has a powerful political hold in Kadapa district. While YS Raja Reddy was murdered in 1998, the eldest son YS Rajasekhara Reddy was killed in a helicopter crash in 2009.

The police had initially registered a case under Section 174 CrPC (unnatural death) when the body of Reddy was found by his staff early in the morning but after a post-mortem, the case was altered to Section 302 IPC that relates to murder.

The Andhra Pradesh government has already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death.

Vivekananda Reddy was a two-time MLA, two-time MP, and a one-term MLC. He served as agriculture minister in the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government in united Andhra Pradesh. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. Police said injuries were found on the forehead, head, and its back, besides on the hand and thigh.

If YSRCP wins in Assembly election, KCR will rule Andhra Pradesh: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu

Visakhapatnam: Taking a jibe at YSR Congress Party, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday claimed that if YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's party wins the upcoming state Assembly election, then the state will be ruled by Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

Naidu made the statement while addressing party leaders and cadre in Visakhapatnam. The Andhra Pradesh chief minister did not take name but indirectly accused YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of killing his own uncle, YS Vivekananda Reddy.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are experts in cheating and betraying... Andhra Pradesh got injustice due to KCR and Prime Minister Modi. But Jagan has colluded with them and betraying the state... Do we need a person who killed his own uncle and vanished all the evidences? KCR is supporting Jagan, as he wants a puppet government in Andhra. If YSRCP wins, KCR rules the state. So don`t vote for YSRCP," Naidu was quoted as saying by ANI.

Naidu claims that YSRCP has no right to even sit in opposition. He added that the MPs of YSRCP chose to resign as they lacked the courage to fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament and their MLAs failed to attend Assembly sessions as they could not fight on public issues. He remarked that YSRCP MPs and MLAs are only interested in taking salaries and they are not fit to represent the public.

"KCR comes to Visakhapatnam on the name of performing `pujas`. When KCR who had worked for me shows such attitude, how much attitude I should have? We have launched Mission 150+. We have to win all 25 MP seats in the state," added Naidu referring to upcoming Lok Sabha poll.

Naidu remarked that Andhra people showed their political acumen by defeating Congress badly for failing to do justice to the state by dividing it into two parts and now BJP should also meet the same fate in the state. Naidu stressed that Modi-KCR-Jagan have come together only to destroy Anhdra Pradesh but the people of state will not surrender before them. "We have the spirit of NTR with us. He gave us the slogan of self-respect. I gave you the slogan of Self Confidence. If anyone attacks our self-confidence, will we leave them?" Naidu added.

Telugu star and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan to contest from Gajuwaka & Bhimavaram constituencies

AMARAVATI: Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday announced that he will contest the April 11 Assembly election in Andhra Pradesh from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram constituencies.

It is to be noted that Pawan Kalyan - a well-known Telugu star - launched his own party Jana Sena few years ago and he has decided to jump into the electoral fray from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram after an intensive survey in various constituencies. Gajuwaka is in Visakhapatnam district and Bhimavaram in West Godavari.

Jana Sena has decided to contest the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party, CPI and CPI(M). As part of the seat-sharing agreement, Jana Sena will field its candidates from 140 Assembly and 18 Lok Sabha seats.

The party has already announced its candidates for 77 Assembly and nine parliamentary seats. The BSP has decided to contest from three Lok Sabha and 21 seats while the two Left parties will field its candidates from seven Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats.

On March 17, Pawan Kalyan had said that he wished to see BSP chief Mayawati as the Prime Minister of India because the country needs a strong leader like her.

It is learnt that Mayawati is scheduled to visit Amalapuram on April 3 and Tirupati the next day before going to Hyderabad. The alliance between Jana Sena and BSP would also extend to Lok Sabha elections in Telangana but the two parties are yet to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement.

In January, while addressing a massive rally in Amaravati, Pawan Kalyan had expressed confidence that his party will form the next government in Andhra Pradesh because it has the support of weaker and backward sections of the society. The Jana Sena supremo had said that main aim is to politically empower all sections of the society and he has not decided to enter the political arena for money and position.
